The Rowan Tree

The Rowan Tree is Andy Roberts’ new song and very lovely it is too. He previewed it in his ustream (Andy Roberts Music on ustream) show last Tuesday and then played it at Havering Folk Club on Wednesday. The song was well received both times and people were very complimentary about it. No wonder! The tune has been going round my head ever since!
We really do have a rowan tree in the front garden and it is true that there was a Scots tradition of planting them to ward off witches. I’m very fond of ours and so are the local birds. I love watching the blackbirds delicately balancing on slim branches to get to the tastiest berries.
Oh Rowan Tree, oh rowan tree..shades of green
